Rules for scanned codes

The rules run in order on every code right after it is scanned, before it is registered. Leading and trailing spaces are always removed. Both the raw code and the result are stored on the entry.

Accept Tab as a terminator, in addition to Enter Register automatically after a pause of ms (0 = off. Only for scanners that do not send Enter.)

Camera

The camera button next to the scan field reads barcodes with the camera on a phone, tablet or PC. Where the browser has a built-in barcode reader (Chrome on Android and Mac) it is used. Otherwise the open-source reader ZXing is fetched from jsDelivr the first time, so you need to be online then. An item is registered once each time it enters the frame.

Using it on iPhone and other phones

The Files app on iPhone does not run JavaScript in a local HTML file, and the camera in the browser requires https. So put the file on a web address with https, for example GitHub Pages, Netlify or your own server with a valid certificate. Open the address in Safari, choose Share and then Add to Home Screen, and you get it as an app with camera access.

Put sw.js next to it on the server and the page also works without coverage after the first visit. Entries are stored in the browser or app you use, so stick to one, and take a backup under Export.

Data

Everything is stored locally in this browser, on this device. Take a backup under Export from time to time.
